To start with, what are Samsung Galaxy A01 reviews?
The cheapest model in Samsung’s A-series of low-cost smartphones is the Galaxy A01, a straightforward Android device with low prices. The phone’s basic hardware and features, such as its plain design and low-resolution display, aren’t much to get excited about at $150 (though we’ve seen it on sale for as little as $100 from Samsung). However, the phone’s feature set is sufficient for the most common tasks, making it a respectable camera, email client, video player, and caller, for its low cost.

Very Good Value Phone — Can Be Changed To English
This is a very nice entry-level or budget phone. Both thin and light, it. It has a SD card and two SIM cards.
It works great for daily tasks like using Gmail, SMS, Chrome or Firefox to browse the web, or playing some simple, light games.
The big screen and tiny camera notch are appealing to me. Bright and simple to read screen.
On T-Mobile, it supports VoLTE and Wifi Calling.
With the T-Mobile network, it supports all of the frequencies and performs admirably.
In terms of GPS navigation, it also functions well with Android Auto.
The camera is “just good,” the only drawback. It does 1080p videos, or at least they appear to, so it’s not terrible. It simply has a regular quality and performs well in natural light. Don’t even try to compare it to these expensive phones with multi-camera arrays that cost 5x or 6x as much because it isn’t surprisingly excellent.
Two recommendations based on other comments I read here:
1. It is absolutely possible to change the language to display in ENGLISH. When the Android system boots up the phone for the first time, a screen in Spanish asks the user to select their preferred language. To see the available languages, tap the list, then scroll UP. “Just below Spanish is the option “English (US).” When you select it, the entire phone changes to English. Once again, this appears on the very first screen of the phone when it boots up for the first time or following a factory reset.
2. Even if the phone is already set up in Spanish, you can still quickly switch to another language. Android can speak at least 40 different languages. Simply select English as the first option under System > Idioma > Agregar un idoma from the notification area, then use the gear icon to access the Android settings.
Thanks, I Hate It! Lol
Since I was sick of replacing my iPhone every few years, I decided to buy this. After I changed the screen on my previous one, it never restarted… so I had to think on my feet. This is the one I came across and thought might make a good introduction to an Android phone. I wish I had recently purchased an iPhone.
Really poor camera quality. I made a quick video the first night I had it and sent it to my brother. He asked if I had recorded it on a potato.
It would take me a very long time to list everything I dislike about this phone. The keyboard is awful; it hardly autocorrects and lacks predictive text. I have pretty much given up texting anyone or leaving comments because the keys are so tiny.
The majority of the storage is occupied by erroneous programs and software that I cannot delete and can only disable (Looking at YOU, Facebook!). I’ve stopped downloading Spotify playlists and storing any kind of photos. I wish my iPod was still here.
It was fairly simple to insert my SIM card because I use straighttalk. But when I buy more data, it doesn’t function at all. Even though all the settings and everything else were perfect, it just didn’t work, and I was corresponding back and forth with their tech support for weeks. They gave up and simply gave me a refund for the data add-on. The phone is now completely unreliable due to this data issue, which is very frustrating. It went out as I was crossing states at night; for the duration of the trip, I was unable to use my GPS or place any calls. I had to reset the phone a few times, but it never fixed the data problem. Sometimes it works now. but like When it comes to service, I said they are fairly unreliable.
The phone hardly works well enough to carry out even the simplest phone tasks. It has an extremely poor speaker. I get frustrated every time I have to enter the passcode because the characters are so small and the interface feels so awkward.
If you are in desperate need of a cheap phone, phone is acceptable. But don’t think for a second that you can use this to replace any iPhone.
Design And Display Of Galaxy A01’s Review
A 5.7-inch LCD is featured on the A01. While watching videos is fine, I am unable to watch them at the sharper 1080p resolution, which is available for many YouTube videos, due to the phone’s 720p resolution. On closer inspection, some on-screen icons (such as the camera) also appear fuzzy, and overall, the LCD display isn’t as vivid and rich as, say, the OLED display on the Galaxy A51.
With a teardrop notch for its front-facing camera, the A01 maintains a contemporary appearance while being thin and small enough to be used with one hand. On the phone’s back are two tiny slits for the audio speaker grille and a headphone jack is located on the device’s top. You should be aware of the fact that whenever you lay your phone down to watch a video, the audio will be slightly muffled by the surface it is resting on. I didn’t notice much of a difference when I placed the A01 on my desk compared to when I was holding the phone in my hand, but the sound did become slightly more muffled when I placed the A01 on my bed to watch videos.
Camera Of Galaxy A01’s Review
In good lighting, the Galaxy A01’s camera captures images that are clear and vibrant, with some images featuring particularly vibrant red and green tones. In a few pictures, the sky was overexposed and turned white. Later that night, I was able to capture a clear image of the blue sky with a balanced exposure for both the foreground and the subject. The 8X digital zoom on the camera does a respectable job of bringing out more details in distant objects, but as you zoom in closer, the image quality becomes murkier and washed out.
Also very inconsistent was live focus for portrait photos. Even though I made sure the effect was prepared to use, several images still had the foreground or object blurred out instead of the background, even though some photos turned out okay. When I contacted Samsung about the problem, they said they were looking into it. I’ll update the review then.
Video in 1080p can be captured by the camera. Although the phone lacks optical image stabilization, the video quality is clear and sharp enough, but it won’t be extremely smooth if you move around a lot while recording.

Internal Storage Woes Of Galaxy A01’s Review
Speaking of photos, you’ll most likely need to purchase a microSD card or use the Google Photos cloud service to store your pictures and videos. The phone’s internal storage is limited to 16GB, with the OS and apps using almost half of that space. The Verizon device I used for this review had a lot of preloaded apps. It had 4.9GB of usable memory when I turned it on for the first time, having neither taken any photos nor downloaded any of my own apps. I got to about 6.8GB after removing as much bloatware as I could (there were some apps I couldn’t delete, including a number of Verizon apps). Again, the phone does support memory expansion up to 512GB, so I advise going that route for onboard storage.
Battery Life Of Galaxy A01’s Review
The phone’s 3,000 mAh battery can sustain light use throughout the workday. This includes a few hours per day spent watching videos, taking pictures, and surfing the web. The phone achieved an average of 11 hours and 47 minutes of continuous video playback while in Airplane mode. That’s a good amount of time to start your shift (and it lasts longer than, say, the Pixel 4 from last year, which cost $800 initially and only lasted 10 hours). But compared to other smartphones I’ve used in the past two years, the A01 and Pixel 4 both have one of the shortest battery lives. For something significantly longer, look into the Moto G Power, which completed the same test with a battery life of over 24 hours. A review update will be made once I have the results of the battery tests for streaming video.
Call Quality & Lte Speeds Of Galaxy A01’s Review
The Samsung Galaxy A01 is available in two variations in the US: one for The networks of AT&T and T-Mobile are used by one, as well as by Verizon. Both have a wide range of band support for their individual carriers. Using Cricket Wireless’ network in Chicago, we tested the review unit they provided.
2x10mHz carrier aggregation and 64-QAM encoding are features of the poky Snapdragon X6 modem’s downlink. It is a slow, outdated modem that is paired with a Snapdragon 439 chipset component and cannot utilize carrier resources as effectively as more recent alternatives like the Snapdragon X9 modem on the Motorola Moto e.
Data rates are underwhelming. Only 2.3Mbps down and 3.2Mbps up were the average test speeds. Even for Cricket, that is slow, and when the network is busy, it will probably cause video and audio to buffer.
However, call quality is very good. The earpiece can be heard clearly on busy streets at a maximum volume of 86dB. Noise cancellation performed well during our test calls and was crystal clear.
A letdown is the speaker’s tendency to backfire. Although the speaker’s volume reaches a maximum of 94 dB, its placement on a table causes muffled audio. Brassy timbre with an abundance of mids but no bass.
However, there is no NFC. Instead, there is dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2. This phone is not the best choice if you want to use it for mobile payments and transit passes.
No Future Android Upgrades
Along with One UI 2, Android 10 is preinstalled on the Galaxy A01. A reversed navigation menu, an updated Settings menu, and a collection of productivity apps are just a few of the unusual changes that Samsung’s custom skin makes to Android.
However, there is one apparent omission: Most Samsung phones have an easy mode feature that enables users to create a simple user interface (UI) that’s great for kids, seniors, and people who prefer less-complicated feature phones. Without it, this phone is less useful as a cheap phone to give to your child or parent.
Unfortunately, Cricket has clogged the phone with installed apps. 29 bloatware apps in our test unit consumed almost half of the storage space. Thankfully, these apps are uninstallable, but you shouldn’t have to remove dozens of apps from a brand-new phone that you didn’t request.
It’s also doubtful that the Galaxy A01 will be updated to Android 11. The majority of Samsung’s Galaxy lineup received three years of software updates in 2020, but the A01 was left off the list.
The Bottom Line
The Galaxy A01 is a basic smartphone with a sizable display, two cameras on the back, and a respectable processor inside. It also has a teardrop-shaped top. The guiding principle of any mid-range device is compromise, and at $150, this one is no different.
